I know it sounds repetitive, but... we always recommend that you arrive at your departure port at least a day before embarkation. There are just too many stories of people who miss the boat... er, ship. Please don't let that be you.

That being said, Disney Cruise Line has recommendations about flight timing:

For the Fort Lauderdale to Fort Lauderdale sailings in 2026, Disney Cruise Line recommend the following flight-time guidelines:

• Latest arrival time to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on embarkation day: 12:30 PM
• Earliest departure time from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on debarkation day: 11:00 AM
• Latest arrival time to Miami International Airport (MIA) on embarkation day: 11:30 AM
• Earliest departure time from Miami International Airport (MIA) on debarkation day: 12:00 PM (Noon)
• For the Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), Disney Cruise Line does not have recommendations, but... it is about an hour drive, so I'd use similar guidelines as for the Miami International Airport.

DISNEY CRUISE LINE GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Disney Cruise Line provides transportation from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) only.

• If you are taking DCL transportation on embarkation day - Upon arrival at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, go directly to baggage claim to pick up your luggage. A Disney Cruise Line representative will be available outside the baggage claim area to direct you to your designated transportation.
• HOTELS - Disney Cruise Line also provides transportation from the DCL partner hotels to the port on embarkation day.
• Disney Cruise Line does not provide transportation to or from the Miami International Airport (MIA) nor the Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)

In most cases, Disney Cruise Line departs out of Port Everglades Terminal 4.

• The Disney Cruise Line terminal -- Terminal 4 -- is located on the northern side of Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades. (See a different version of a map here.)
• 👉 UPDATED - THE BEST WAY TO ARRIVE AT THE DISNEY CRUISE LINE TERMINAL - In most cases, you will want to enter the port on the northern side -- use SE 17th Street to Eisenhower Boulevard - from there, you will enter on SE 20th Street. 
  • Port Everglades has several ways to enter. Many navigation apps will bring you in via E State Road 84. I used to tell guests to avoid this entrance because it involved a security checkpoint. That is no longer the case -- the Port has now constructed a bypass so you dodge the security checkpoint, but... you will come through the VERY industrial side of the port.
  • If you enter using SE 17th Street - traffic patterns permitting - it is fairly easy.
  • There maybe times when there are big events at the Broward County Convention Center. Disney Cruise Line will often notify you. (The convention center list ALL events here.) There may be additional traffic in that area.
• FOLLOW the signs to the Disney Cruise Line terminal - the HERON GARAGE and Terminal 4.
• On the ground floor of the garage is where you will get dropped off and hand off your luagge to the terminal porters. 
• Port Everglades has more information about 'getting here'

You arrive at the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades - Terminal 4 or the HERON garage. You will be directed where to go.

PRO-TIP: Arrive at (or after) your Port Arrival Time. You will not be allowed to enter the terminal building until your Port Arrival Time - and where you wait is on the ground level of the garage. It isn't terribly fun to deal with the noice and exhaust.

IF YOU ARE PARKING AT THE PORT

• You will be parking in the HERON garage, located literally adjacent to where your Disney ship is docked;
• You may be able to drop off your checked bags - or they may direct you to park and then you will bring your bags down the elevator with you.
• The parking garage opens at 10:45 AM.
• Parking rates for a standard size vehicle has a daily maximum of $20.00 USD. Oversized vehicles have the daily maximum of $25.00 USD. Pricing subject to change - check the Port Everglades Web site here: https://YenSid.Travel/PortEvergladesParkingRates
  • OVERSIZED VEHICLES - The parking area of the Heron garage has a 7-foot clearance.

ALL OTHER TRANSPORTATION

• You will be dropped off on the ground level of the HERON garage;
• There will be porters there to collect your bags. (REMINDER - You may want to have cash for tips.)

At your Port Arrival Time, you will make your way to the terminal building, themed around Finding Nemo.

• You will go through check-in - REMINDER - You will need your travel documents (Port Arrival Form - citizenship documents - DisneyBand+ if you are using them). After check-in...
• You will go through security - similar to what you do at airports, although you do NOT need to take your shoes off;
  • PRO-TIP - While you are waiting for your boarding group, you can connect to the DCL-GUEST WiFi network and open your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. You will see it transform as it downloads details about your cruise.
• When they call your boarding group, you will make your walk to the ship - and yes, you get to go through the Mickey 'ears.'

CONCIERGE

Concierge guests have a special waiting area, located upstairs, and will be among the first invited to board.

• They will give Concierge guests a gold sticker. That is how the staff knows you can go up to the Concierge waiting area.

In all candor, disembarkation day is not my favorite. It has all the hassles of embarkation day, but without the anticipation. 

• Reminder that Disney Cruise Line is working to get everybody off the ship so they can get a whole new group of gusest on board. It is a quick turn around.

Hopefully you can take a moment to remember the memories. (We have a family tradition that we get a photo in front of the ship's statue - and take just a moment.)

• BREAKFAST will be offered. It is an abbreviated breakfast - nothing grand. The timing will be based on your dining time - 5:45p dining will go early, while 8:15p dining will go later. Regardless, it will be early.

‼️ 👉 IMPORTANT REMINDER - Each guest will need their Key to the World card or a DisneyBand+ to get off the ship. That is how they make sure that everybody is off the ship.

• If you are taking Disney Cruise Line transportation, you will also need your Key to the World card - this is how they know you have included ground transportation.

🛫 👉 BOOKING FLIGHTS - DEPARTURE TIMES

• Disney Cruise Line recommends that the earliest departure time from Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport on debarkation day: 11:00 AM;
• Earliest departure time from Miami International Airport on debarkation day: 12:00 PM (Noon).

EXPRESS DISEMBARKATION

If you need to get off as quickly as possible, you can use the express disembarkation. You will carry ALL of your bags with you and will be among the first off the ship.

• REMINDER that the ship elevators will be VERY busy on disembarkation day, so... just be aware.

WHEN YOU GET OFF THE SHIP

When you get off the ship, you will be guided to collect your luggage - it will be divided by color and Disney character.

You will need to go through U.S. Customs.

• If you have a passport, they use facial recognition - and it is VERY efficient.
• ‼️ 👉 IMPORTANT REMINDER - Have your travel documents in your carry on bags and have them easily accessible. 

Once you exit that space, you can go to the elevators for the garage parking or you will be guided to Disney Cruise Line ground transportation, ride share, or private pick-up.

• For ride share and private pick-up, there will be numbered spots where you can meet up with your driver.

With Disney Cruise Line's growing fleet of ships, there may be times when there are multiple Disney Cruise Line ships at Port Everglades. 

In those cases, Disney Cruise Line may use Port Everglades Terminal 2, which is located adjacent to the Disney Cruise Line terminal - terminal 4.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• 👉 THE BEST WAY TO ARRIVE AT THE DISNEY CRUISE LINE TERMINAL - In most cases, you will want to enter the port on the northern side -- use SE 17th Street to Eisenhower Boulevard - from there, you will enter on SE 20th Street. 
  • Port Everglades has several ways to enter. Many navigation apps will bring you in via E State Road 84. • DROP OFF - If you are driving, you will want to drop your bags at Terminal 2 and then go to park your car. 
  • There is an elevated passenger bridge with moving sidewalks that connects Terminal 2 and the HERON garage. The bridge can be found on the 5th floor of the Heron Garage or the elevators on the outside of Cruise Terminal 2.

TERMINAL 2 DEPARTURE DATES

Disney Cruise Line has listed the following dates for when the Disney Dream will be using Terminal 2:

  • The Disney Dream itineraries listed above will depart from Terminal 2, but it will return to Terminal 4. Both Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 use the HERON parking garage, so it should not be an issue. 

There are certain cases where Disney ships will use Port Everglades' Terminal 26, located on the southern side of Port Everglades.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Unlike the Disney Cruise Line terminal - Terminal 4 - Terminal 26 is located on the southern side of Port Everglades. 
• At this time, we haven't had to deal with how this will work. I will update as the time approaches.
• DROP OFF - Upon arriving at the port, follow the signs to the Disney Cruise Line ship and Terminal #26, where you can drop off luggage. From there, you'll be directed to the parking garage to park your car.
  • At the moment, we understand that guests will park at the 1,966-space Palm parking garage.

Disney Dream sailings through April 27, 2026, will embark and disembark from Terminal #4, with the following exceptions:

• The Disney Dream sailing on January 23, 2026, will embark from Cruise Terminal #4 and disembark from Cruise Terminal #26.
• 👉 You can confirm dates via DisneyCruise.com's Fort Lauderdale page.

You can drive yourself or rent a car.

• Fort Lauderdale is not a particularly walkable city. You can always get around via ride share.

CAR SERVICE

• I'm searching for good local car service. At the moment, I've been using BlackLane, which can be more expensive, but they are always exceptional. 
• KIDCAR.COM - This is a car service specifically for families. They will have the right car seats properly installed. KidMoto also provides a service specifically focused on families.

DRIVING

• If you drive, leave yourself enough time - Florida traffic can be unpredictable... and in South Florida can be even worse.
• You can park at Port Everglades.

RENT-A-CAR

• Pretty much every rental car is available at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport rental car center - some provide transportation to Port Everglades;
• There are some rental car companies that have locations even closer to Port Everglades - Budget Car Rental, Hertz Car Rental, and Enterprise Car Rental. 

OFF-SITE PARKING

If you want less expensive parking, you can park off-site, which is often less than parking at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades. While it involves another layer of planning, many of these locations have transportation to the port, but you will want to check on that.

• In general, my recommendatio is to drop of the luggage at the port, and then drop off the car, just to make it a bit easier;
• Park by the Ports - located just south of the airport;
• Park 'N Go - located near the airport;
• Rightway Parking - uses different locations;

There are three airports that are close to Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades:

• Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) - This is the closest airport by far. It is literally minutes from Port Everglades;
• Miami International Airport (MIA) - Located 45–60 minutes south of Fort Lauderdale, MIA is great for international options. Disney Cruise Line does not provide ground transportation to the Miami International Airport;

• Palm Beach International (PBI) - This is a smaller airport located 50–75 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale. It is quiet and easy to navigate. Disney Cruise Line does not offer ground transportation to the Palm Beach International Airport.

• Orlando International Airport (MCO) - Some guests want to visit The Walt Disney World Resort before their cruise - even from Fort Lauderdale. MCO is several hours from Fort Lauderdale, depending on traffic. You can also take the Brightline train from MCO's Terminal C.

There are three train lines that serve Fort Lauderdale.

BRIGHTLINE

• This is a relatively new high-speed train in Florida that goes between the Orlando International Airport and Miami - with stops along the way, including in Fort Lauderdale. 
• The ticket price to get between Orlando and Fort Lauderdale would be about $41.00/person and it takes about 3-hours.
• BRIGHTLINE'S FORT LAUDERDALE STATION is located at
  • 101 NW 2nd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311
  • The Brightline Fort Lauderdale train station is about 4-miles/15-minutes from the Disney Cruise LIne terminal (Terminal 4) at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades.
• TIMING - As with most transportation options, leave yourself some time. This is particularly important pre-cruise.

AMTRAK

• Amtrak serves Fort Lauderdale via its Silver Service routes (the Silver Meteor & Silver Star) which run along the U.S. East Coast.

TRI-RAIL

• This is a true commuter-rail style service. It runs roughly hourly between Miami (via the station near the airport / downtown) and Fort Lauderdale. Estimated travel time is about 35-40 minutes.
• There is a station near the Miami International Airport (MIA) and there is a station (relatively) close to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina

The Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina is one of the hotels that you can include as part of your Disney Cruise Line reservation.

• This hotel is located approximately 5 miles (15-20 minutes) from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and 0.5 miles from the cruise terminal;
• You can get Disney Cruise Line ground transportation from the hotel to Port Everglades;
• YenSid Travel INSIGHTS - This hotel is quite close to the Disney Cruise Line terminal - from the front of the hotel, you may be able to see the funnel of your Disney ship. YES - it feels like you can just walk to the Disney Cruise Line terminal, but... ❌ Well, technically you can walk, but... it is cumbersome. (Let's be honest - Florida just doesn't treat pedestrians on par with vehicles.) 
  • 🚍 You CAN get Disney Cruise Line ground transportation from the hotel to Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades from this hotel. If you are interested, I can get pricing;
  • It is located on the Stranahan River, which is essentially the Intercostal Waterway. 
  • BEACH SHUTTLE - The hotel does provide a shuttle to Fort Lauderdale beach - be sure to check the timing.
  • The Fort Lauderdale water taxi also has a stop right on the river, which is a fun way to get around the city. (It is recommended you pre-purchase tickets.)
  • DINING - I ate at the hotel restaurant - Olive & Sea. The rooftop restaurant has lovely view of the Intracoastal, offers dishes infused with the bright, fresh flavors of the Eastern Mediterranean. It is convenient and it was better than expected.
    • You can book your reservation ahead of time via OpenTable.

Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa

The Fort Lauderdale Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa is the other hotel that you can add to your Disney Cruise Line reservation.

• The hotel is located about 6-miles (15-20 minutes) from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and about 2-miles (10-15 minutes) from the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades. 
• You can get Disney Cruise Line ground transportation to the port from this hotel;

• I have stayed at this hotel - and I really liked it. 
• This hotel tends to be more expensive than some other options, but it is an awesome alternative, particularly if you are planning an extended pre- or post-cruise stay in Fort Lauderdale -- making this your first port of call, if you will. 
  • The hotel sits right on the beach, but it also has a lovely pool, and several restaurants, including one that sits by the beach. All of this gives it a 'resort' feel.
  • If you are literally just using the hotel as a bed before getting on the ship, there are less expensive options.

ONE BIG THING - The Omni Fort Lauderdale is the closest hotel to the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades. 

• The hotel is located approximately 4.6-miles/15 minutes from the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport... 30-miles/1-hour from the Miami International Airport... and it is literally located adjacent to the Port Everglade's Disney Cruise Line terminal. 
• This is a new hotel - it opened in December 2025 -  and, as I noted, it is adjacent to the Disney Cruise Line terminal.
• You can walk between the Omni and Port Everglades' Terminal 4, BUT... it isn't a fun walk and, if you have luggage and kids, it might feel longer than it is.
• I have been told there is a free shuttle from the Omni to the port terminal.

OVERVIEW

• The hotel is located approximately 5 miles/15 minutes (depending on traffic) from the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport... 30 miles/45 minutes (depending on traffic) from the Miami International Airport... and is just down the street from the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Everglades -- a bit more than a mile/10 minutes (depending on the bridge opening schedule). 

This hotel, with its eye-catching midcentury modern design, recently reopened after an extensive renovation.

• I always dodge the 'is it worth it question' - it can be difficult for us to assess 'worth.' It will depend on what you are looking for. But the rooms are lovely, the staff was awesome, and the location is fantastic.
• This hotel is where Disney put the media before the christening cruise. Ryno noted on The DIS Unlimited Disney Destiny Q&A session that this was the nicest hotel he has stayed.
• THE BOTTOM LINE - It is lovely - if you want to spend the money.

W Fort Lauderdale

ONE BIG THING - The W Fort Lauderdale is a large, renovated beachfront hotel with 517 rooms and suites, offering a lively atmosphere and modern amenities.

• The hotel is located about 8-miles/25-minutes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)... it is about 35-miles/1 hour 30 minutes from the Miami International Airport (MIA)... it is about 4-miles/15-minutes from the Disney Cruise Line terminal (Terminal 4) at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades.
• Rooms start around $240 per night, with higher rates during peak times, and can also be booked using points through the Marriott Bonvoy program.
• A daily resort fee covers perks like beach chairs, umbrella, fitness classes, bicycle rentals, and high-speed Wi-Fi, though some amenities may vary for elite members.
• The property features two pools, several dining options, a fitness center, and direct beach access, but can feel crowded during busy periods.

ONE BIG THING - This is a value/moderate hotel that is located near the airport with some shops nearby.

• The hotel is located less than 4-miles/11-minutes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport -- the hotel has a complimentary shuttle to and from the airport - and 5-miles/15-minutes from the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Everglades.
• The hotel has two restaurants on site, but it is also located in an area where there are shops, restaurants and even a grocery store;
• The hotel has a shuttle to the port if you want to use that, although in most cases, I think rideShare would generally be less expensive;
• I have not stayed at this hotel - H/T podcaster Jen Laforge;

Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel

• Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Marina Hotel, which is located a bit more than 4-miles/about 15-minutes from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and is less than a mile from the Disney Cruise Line terminal (Terminal 4) at Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades.
• The hotel features 236 well appointed rooms and suites.
• The Renaissance features on-site dining options such as Bistro 17, serving American cuisine, and several bars including a poolside bar.
• It seems like you should be able to walk, but, in general, Fort Lauderdale is not very walkable;
• It gets more than 4-stars on TripAdvisor. 
• If you do stay there, please let me know your impressions and experience;

Fort Lauderdale enjoys warm, tropical weather year-round, making it a popular and reliable destination for travelers. 

• Temperatures typically range from the mid-70s in the winter to the upper-80s and low-90s in the summer, with plenty of sunshine throughout the year. 
• Winter and spring are generally dry and comfortable, while summer and early fall bring higher humidity and the chance of afternoon showers. 
• Hurricane season runs from June through November, so travelers should be aware of the potential for storms during this period. 
• Overall, Fort Lauderdale’s climate is consistently warm, beach-friendly, and ideal for a pre- or post-cruise stay.

• The Atlantic Hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30.

  • The peak period from mid-August to early October. 

• While the region enjoys warm, sunny weather most of the year, this season brings a higher chance of tropical systems that can affect flight schedules, port operations, and cruise itineraries. 

• Disney Cruise Line and other major cruise operators monitor weather conditions closely and adjust routes proactively to keep guests safe—so it’s far more common to see itinerary changes than cruise cancellations.

• We always recommend that you arrive early. During hurricane season, this is particularly true -- aim to arrive in Fort Lauderdale at least one day before your sailing,

• CANCELLATIONS ARE THE EXCEPTION - In most cases, the cruise does go on. It is unusual for Disney Cruise Line (or any cruise line for that matter) to cancel a cruise altogether, BUT...
• Things may change. Stay flexible.
• There may be changes, but Disney Cruise Line will do whatever they can to ensure that you have the best possible.
• STAY TUNED - Disney Cruise Line will let you know if there are any changes as soon as they can. (One of the great things about weather forecasting is we know about these storms days or weeks in advance, but... they will let you know if there are any changes... and I will let you know as well.
